In the beginning of the story, a man named Manu lived in India. Manu was the first human and first king of India. One day when he was washing his hands in the river he heard a small fish cry for help.
Manu decided to save the fish out of pity. He put the small fish in a small bowl and fed it. But eventually, it grew. So he put it in a larger bowl. Then, it grew again. So, he put it in an even larger bowl.
The fish eventually grew to appoint that Manu could not keep him in a container. The fish grew so big, Manu was forced to return him to the ocean.

In return for Manu saving his life and giving him a place to grow, the small fish warned Manu that a flood was coming. He told Manu to build a boat and bring 2 of every plant and animal along with him on the boat

Manu took the fishes advice, built a boat, and put the animals in the boat. When the storm hit, Manu tied a rope to the fishes horn and the bow of the boat. Then the fish pulled them to the Himalayan mountains which is now one of the most sacred Hindu places.
They arrive at the mountain and eventually the water recedes. But after seeing all of the animals with their mates, Manu began to grow lonely. So, he sent up an offering to the gods and they sent him a wife
