  • Hello, I am a student at Coe-Brown and I'm going to teach you the chemistry of running!
  • Carbohydrates are what give me energy and fuel to keep running for a longer time. 
  • Before doing a huge running event, I like to eat carbohydrates.  
  • Carbohydrates can be given to us by pasta, bread, and rice. 
  • The carbs then get broken down and form glucose. Glucose is another form of energy too!
  • ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate) gets glycogen (stored glucose) from your muscles and tissues to use energy. 
  • The fat that gets stored and used for energy, Triglycerides, also gets used while running too!
  • Make sure to breathe when you run because in order for all this chemistry to happen, you need oxygen. 
  • So, if you have all of these things I just talked about, you will not hit 'the wall' when you run because you will be perfect if you do the right thing!
