Our 55 delegates arrive and change our government.
Simply quite agreeable, I may add.
Very much so, my dear Ben Franklin.
Ah, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton! I hope that you are well?
The different plans.
New Jersey Plan!
Why can't we all just get along!
The Great Compromise
In 1787, 55 delegates from the original 13 states (Rhode Island choose not to send delegates) came to discuss a new form of government. They meet in the Meeting Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. No one but the states governors new about this meeting so as not to cause panic and riots.
During the convention, two plans of government were created. One was the Virginia plan, which favored large populated states. Another was the New Jersey Plan, which favored smaller populated states. Neither plan worked with everyone and fights broke out.
6 months after the meeting started, the 55 delegates came to an agreement. This was known as the Connecticut Plan. This plan said that one branch of government would have two delegates from each state. One other branch would have a number of delegates based states population. Almost every state agreed to this plan. The End.
