Storyboard Text

  • Cartier then went to set out on his second and most important journey. his objectives were to find the great lakes and the route to China.
  • The weather didn't turn out so good this time and the three ships split up until they all finally met 11 weeks later when they reached the coast of Canada.
  • Cartier went out with the help of the chief's sons to look for the treasure of gold and silver up the St. Lawrence river.
  • When they reached the spot where the other natives were the chief was surprised that they had returned. Cartier was eager to go up to Hocheleg and bring back the treasure he hoped for but the chief wanted to dissuade him to stay middle man.
  • The journey to what is now montreal took 13 days. when he arrived he was forced to dock and move by foot. Because the winter there was so cold they were forced to return to Stadacona and try and wait the cold out there.
  • Cartier decided that in order to keep France safe he must remove the chief Donnacona and his sons completely. He kidnapped them and brought them back to France where he presented them to the king.
