  • The civil war would begin in 1861 with the North vs. South over the controversy of slavery, the North would win.
  • Lincoln was always anti-slavery, after the Norths victory Lincoln decided it was time to issue the Emancipation proclamation
  • On January 1st, 1863 Lincoln would sign Emancipation Proclamation declaring all held as slaves were to be free
  • Slaves in all ten Confederate states were to be free
  • The Emancipation Proclamation would free more than 3.5 million slaves, allowing them to be recognized by the military and government, an act of justice
