Storyboard Text

  • I. The World of Common Day
  • II. The Call to Adventure
  • III. Refusal of the Call
  • 1 AM Thursday, February 15th
  • My life throughout 9th grade had never really been too difficult, I maintained good grades and had good conduct. My relationship with God was pretty stable and I worshiped Him and prayed to Him on a daily basis. My family and I had plans for a Chattanooga trip in March and Orlando in summer. At the time, I didn't know those plans would be cancelled.
  • IV. Meeting with the Mentor
  • When February 12th arrived, my older brother, Caleb, wasn't feeling good so we skipped bible study for that Monday night. On Tuesday, he was diagnosed with the flu and gets Tamiflu for treatment. We skip church Wednesday night while Caleb is still sick as a dog.
  • V. Crossing the First Threshold
  • After waking on Thursday morning from a call from my dad, I realized that Caleb was rushed to the hospital around 1 am that morning. I get ready for school and get there while not realizing how much my life would be like this for the next two months or so. Life was very different that day and I was definitely not ready.
  • VI. Tests, Allies and Enemies
  • Although there was no real mentor through this journey, my extended family, church, and friends were there for me no matter what. My grandmother stayed with my brother and me during the weekdays and we stayed with our grandfather on the weekends. Our church friends hung out with us as much as they could and gave us every bit of support we needed.
  • After realizing the seriousness of Caleb's condition, I knew I would have to commit my life and prayers towards this situation for as long as I needed to. I visited Caleb and my mom in the hospital as much as possible because I never knew how much time I would have with Caleb.
  • Although there were no real enemies, some doctors at LeBonheur gave us the disappointment and doubt that discouraged us. I can't give them all the blame though because that was their jobs and their job is solely based on statistics. The nurses, however, were very encouraging with their positive attitudes and comforting feelings and emotions.
