  • The Dred Scott case
  • No you may not have your freedom you are a slave.
  • I want my freedom I should be free since I am in a free state.
  • Fugitive slave act
  • Hey you stop i am sending you backt o the south were you belong
  • Kansas Nebraska act
  • This case helped caused the war. Dred scott was wanting to sue his owner because he was in a free state. He thought that he should be free since he was in a free state. This case went all the way to the supreme court. The northerners were mad because congress said they could not stop slavery. The north were abolitionist they were against slaves.
  • Compromise of 1850
  • The fugitive slave act was made to make slaves that escaped from the south and caught in the north they would be sent back. This angered the slaves so then if they escaped they would have to get to canada.
  • The Election of 1860
  • I Abraham Lincoln am the president of the United States of America.
  • This act was made so that there would be less tension between the north and the south. This would allow citizens to vote if they wanted slavery or not in there state.
  • State rights
  • I as a northern want to have the same rules as the president.
  • I as a southerner want to have more state rights.
  • The Georgia platform was led by Alexander Stephens . Georgia approved the compromise of 1850 because of the fugitive slave act Georgia supported slaves. To choose your state to see if it was a free or slave state was by popular sovereignty.
  • In the election of 1860 Abraham Lincoln won. Because of the results of the election southern states became furious they wanted slavery. This made the southern states want to secede. Georgia did not want to secede from the union , while others thought secession was necessary.
  • Northern states believed in order as one union all states needed to follow the same rules set forth by the president. Southern states believed in more states authority. This meant that each state should be free and make there own decisions based on what there state needs. The south thought they were more important than he north. Like the north thought they were better ,and more important than the south. This made the north and south want different state rights. The south did not want tarrifs from England, unlike the north that wanted tarrifs.
