The impeachment of Andrew Johnson
This storyboard does not have a description.
Andrew Johnson becoame the 17th in 1868 and he waas also the first one to be impeached.
There was only one problem. He would veto any of the bills or laws that Congress would bring up but then they would always override him.
Since Congress isn't in session today i can finally get rid of Edwin Stanton and replace him with Ulysses S. Grant.
He never liked Edwin Stanton because of how much he supported the republicans. He did this when congress wasn't in session because he knew that they wouldn't allow it.
When the House of Republicans got back in session and they heard about this, they were not happy. They decided to file him for impeachment and 9 out of 11 of the reasons were all following the Violation of the Tenure Office Act.
They discussed and argued in till they finally agreed what the charges would be.
The House of Republicans were so close to having a successful impeachment. They only needed one more vote before Johnson was impeached and they didn't get it unfortunately. Now what ever law or bill was passed by congress he would veto it and then he would be overriden. It was like this until the end of his term.
