"A Shocking Accident" By: Graham Greene Colt Caldwell 1st Period 05/01/2018
Jerome is the main character in this story. He is a very young and well dressed boy that attends a very nice school. Jerome's character affects this story because he believes that his father's death happened differently.
This story takes place in a Prep School Office between 2nd and 3rd class. The housemaster of the school tells Jerome that his father has been hurt. Jerome assumes that his father was shot but that is not the case.
Jerome thinks that his father has been shot while working on his secretive job. The housemaster tells him that a pig fell on his father from a balcony above. Jerome doesn't like to tell people this story because people laugh that his father died from something so uncommon.
Jerome is very insecure about what happened to his father. People normally laugh at him when he says his father was killed by a falling pig. When he told his girlfriend she did not laugh. Jerome did not have to be insecure about his fathers death anymore.
I think that the theme of the story is that if you really like someone, then you are ok with there embarrassments and insecurities. Jerome didn't want to tell Sally the truth because he was scared she wouldn't take it seriously. Sally showed that she did care about him and his feelings.
