Hi, my name is Lydia, and I am going to show you the life of a water molecule.
By: Lydia M. Kramer
First, water comes to the earth as precipitation, which is water in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Next, the water sometimes falls in the mountains or on rocks, which will then flow into rivers as surface runoff or it falls directly in the rivers and streams and will eventually flow into a lake or an ocean.
But most of the time the water falls onto the ground and is soaked up by the soil. Then it becomes soil moisture, but if the water percolates, which means the water will continue to travel down into the ground until it reaches the water table it will eventually become groundwater.
Now all of that water flows into a body of water either by groundwater flow or river flow, and is then evaporated. But the plants also take some of that water and is then sent up into the atmosphere by transpiration.
Finally, the water condenses to form a cloud, and the whole process starts all over again.
