  • Jonas is about to assigned the new receiver of the community. "In a firm, commanding voice she announced, "Jonas has been selected to be our next Receiver of Memory." (Lowry 60) (Old book)
  • The Call to Adventure
  • You have been selected to be the new receiver
  • Jonas is in disbelief that he has such an important selection and thinks it was made by accident. "Now was the moment when he would have to confess, to say, "No, I don't. I can't," and throw himself on their mercy, ask their forgiveness, to explain that he had wrongly chosen, that he was not the right one at all." (Lowry 63) (Old Book)
  • What?! It cant be me! This has to be a mistake!
  • Refusal to Call
  • It is Jonas's first day of training. He says goodbye to Fiona and is about to enter the Annex room. "Jonas nodded, waved to her, and headed around the building toward the Annex, a small wing attached to the back." (Lowry 72) (Old Book)

  • The Beginning of the Adventure
  • After a few days of training it was time Jonas had to face painful memories for the first time because it was his responsibility. "Then suddenly, he was in the Annex room again, writhing on his bed. His face in tears. Able to move now, he rocked his own body back and forth, breathing deeply to release the remembering pain."
