From the summer of 1940 to the fall of 1941, the Germans bombed the English during the night
The Germans used 350 bombing aircraft and 650 fighting aircraft to attack the English.
Air Raid Shelters were used to protect the citizens from the bombs.
Because the countries resources were focused on the war, the civilians had to use ration books that had coupons dictating how much of a particular item they could buy.
Britain was blacked out on September 1, 1939. Everyone had to cover their windows and doors with heavy blackout curtains at night. This made the town seem black and invisible to air raid pilots.
During the blackout is when white lines were painted on the roads so drivers would have less accidents due to the lights being off. This was when pedestrians were encouraged to walk facing the traffic.
