On the planet Venus it is always raining and the sun never shines. The young girl Margot whose blue is gone from her eyes, the red from her mouth, the yellow from the hair, believes the will come out for one day. She normally stays out with the other kids at school.
The rain has stopped.
They were right the sun is out.
It never stops raining on Venus so the other kids don't believe in the sun. Today, Margot believes the sun will come out for one hour, but William and the other boys think she's crazy. The boys, led by William, are always being mean to Margot.
Wait a minute, where's Margot?
We left her in the closet all day!
Margot reads a poem that she wrote about the sun in front of the class, but William doesn't believe she wrote it. Then he and the other kids decided to lock Margot up in a closet. She tries to get away, but too late, they locked her up and she begs to be let out.
We're sorry Margot.
I'm so sorry you missed the sun.
It stops raining and the kids see Margot was right that it would stop. The kids go outside to explore this world of wonder. It is a land of a lush green canopy of flowers and the kids play for an hour.
After an hour the sun fades away and the rain comes back. The sun won't shine for another seven years. But then the kids realize they left Margot in the closet the entire time.
The kids feel bad now for locking Margot and not believing her. They let her out of the closet and she walks out sad and silent. She missed the sun being out and it will not be seen again in seven years.
