Storyboard Text

  • Hello there, my name is Alfred Wegener. My theory of the continental drift and the super continent pangea are now well known
  • Alfred Wegener is the person who came up with the theory of contintental drift which means that there was one a "super continent" called Pangea which was broken up into pieces that created continents.
  • A strike slip fault is a fault in which there is a vertical fracture where the vertical blocks move horizontally
  • Tension occurs when the stress streches a rock in two different directions
  • Convergent plates are a type of plate movement. A subduction is when the more dense plate goes below the less dense plate.
  • A divergent plate boundary is when the plates move apart. This causes separations in the ocean floor. The convection currents move the magma and cause separation in the oceans surface.
  • A earthquake is a movement in plate tectonics. The epicenter is the main focus point of an earthquake. A seismograph is the way to measure the power of the earthquake. Their are different types of waves in an earthquake, the p wave arrives first and the s wave is second.  Triangulation is a way of determining the location.
  • A volcano is a mountain with magma shooting upward towards the earths surface. The ring of fire is a ring of volcanoes that actively could go off. An explosive eruption includes lava shooting out of the top while a non explosive consists of a stream of lava rather than an explosion.  The three types of water falls are: cinder, shield, and composite.
