George and Hazel are sitting in their living room watching the television on a seemingly normal afternoon. However, they are unable to concentrate due to the government handicapping people to bring everyone down to the same level.
An emergency broadcast on the news reveals that Harrison Bergeron has just escaped prison where he was held for suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government.
Harrison crashes the ballerina performance and declares himself emperor, as he rips his handicaps off. He tells the musicians to play music and asks for a ballerina to dance with him.
Diane Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, enters the stage and shoots Harrison and the ballerina immediately as they are dancing in midair.
Diana Moon Glampers orders the musicians to put their handicaps back on. She lets everyone know that what happened to Harrison could happen to others if they choose to do the same.
The screen fades to darkness as Hazel breaks out into tears. When George asks her what it was , she cannot remember due to her average intelligence. George simply urges her to forget bad things.
