  • President James Madison is asking Congress to declare war on the British because the British are taking American sailors and attacking American ships.
  • Francis Scott Key and the Bombardment of Fort McHenry
  • The British convinced the Native Americans to help them fight the Americans, and they also would capture American sailors and force them to fight for Britain against France.
  • Battle of New Orleans and Andrew Jackson War Hero
  • Oliver Hazard Perry took command of e U.S. Navy in Lake Erie and William Harrison defeated the British army that was fighting against the U.S. at the Great Lakes.

  • Spring of 1814, British troops burned down Washington and Fort McHenry and captured Francis Scott Key. Out of his window he could see the American Flag and wrote the Star Spangled Banner.
  • 1/8/1815 Andrew Jackson becomes a war hero. Which helps win him presidential election only 71 U.S. solders died while 2000 British solders got killed.
  • Manufacturing in the U.S. grew. No more Indian resistance, America gains global respect and prestige. Nationalism and pride sweeps America.
