  • The American colonists got very angry at Thomas Hutchinson because he represented the taxes that Britain wanted to put on. The first one was the stamp act. The colonists did not like this because they payed tax without represantation. They were paying taxes to a country 3000 miles away. The colonists got angry and attacked Thomas Hutchinson's house. This was the first major event leading up to the American revoloution.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • 1774
  • The fourth act forced the Americans to quarter, this meant they had to feed and house the British soldiers at any time.
  • In the Boston Massacre civilians started throwing glasses and snowballs at the British soldiers. In a panic the British soldiers called for back up and fired. 5 civilians died and the first martyr was an ex slave named Crispus Attucks. This was very soon turned into propaganda in a newspaper. Paul Rever made the newspaper Boston Gazette and told the story that the British soldiers fired at the civilians for no reason
  • Lexington
  • The Boston Tea Party was a protest from the Colonist group 'The Sons of Liberty'. This happened in the Boston harbour. This event happened because of the tax that was now on tea, called 'The Tea Act.' The sons of liberty lead by Samuel Adams dressed up as Mohawk Indians and attacked the three ships carrying tea on them 'The Dartmouth, The Eleanor and The Beaver. ' Each ship had roughly 114 chests of tea so 342 chests were dumped. No one was guarding the tea.
  • Concord
  • The news of the Boston Tea Party reached England on January 20 1774, and unsurprisingly King George was furious. There were 4 main acts as a result of the Boston Tea Party. Firstly he closed the Boston harbour, 'The Boston Port Act.' Next he let all the British soldiers who were arrested for the Boston Massacre get, what some said was a bias, trial in England. The third, called 'The Massachusetts Government Act' which let the King pick the council and the governor.
  • After the Boston Tea Party, the Red coats marched over to Concord to seize the weapons of the colonies. However, they were warned, so the militiamen intercepted the Red coats at Lexington. There was no intention of a fight as there was only 80 militiamen and hundreds of red coats. But then someone shot a bullet known as ‘The bullet heard around the world’ because this my made everyone rebel against the British empire. This cause a fight and the start of the American revolution. Only a few people were killed and injured. The colonists fled to Concord and the red coats continued there.
  • The Red coats then marched on to Concord to finally destroy the weapons. However, when they arrived they were too busy looking for the weapons and many colonists gathered on a bridge and attacked them. The Red coats fled but the colonists chased killing and injured many of them. 174 died and 171 injured from the British. 44 died and 41 injured from the colonists.
