Act 1 Scene 2

Storyboard Text

  • Romeo tells Juliet that he loves her
  • I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I’ll be new baptized. Henceforth I never will be Romeo.
  • Juliet asks why his name is Romeo
  • What man art thou that, thus bescreened in night, So stumblest on my counsel?
  • Romeo says he would change his name if he could
  • I know not how to tell thee who I am. My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself Because it is an enemy to thee. Had I it written, I would tear the word.
  • The audience knows that Romeo is madly in love with Juliet and tries to speak with her without being seen.
  • Juliet asks how he got in
  • How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore? The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, And the place death, considering who thou art, If any of my kinsmen find thee here.
  • The audience knows that Juliet is the daughter of the Capulet & asks why can't Romeo change his name so that the capulets don't recognize him as a montague.
  • Romeo explains how his love for her carried him in
  • With love’s light wings did I o'erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me.
  • The audience finds out that Romeo can't change his name even if he wanted to.
  • Juliet would do anything to protect Romeo if he was caught
  • I would not for the world they saw thee here.
  • The audience already knows how Romeo got in the castle
  • The audience knows that Romeo would risk anything to see Juliet
  • The audience now knows that Juliet would do anything to protect Romeo
