- There are serious long term effects from drinking alcohol. Firstly there are many serious health issues such as liver disease, nerve damage, permanent damage to the brain, high blood pressure, heart-related diseases, and an increased chance of having a stroke. There can also be mental health issues associated with long term alcohol abuse, including, domestic violence, increased family problems and broken relationships.

- There are many short term effects from drinking alcohol. These include slurred speech, decreased perception and coordination, distortion of hearing and vision, impaired judgement, drowsiness, vomiting, unconsciousness, and blackouts. This can lead to even more serious effects such as alcohol poisoning, or falling into a coma.
