  • In the beginning of the chapter, Aunt Alexandra is mad when she finds out that the kids went to Calpurnias church with her. So, she tries to convince Atticus to get rid of her, but he refuses.
  • Calpurnia is part of this here family, she aint leavin and thats final!
  • After his talk with Aunt Alexandra, Atticus walks into the living room to find Jem and Scout fighting. They were fighting because Jem told Scout to stop fighting with Aunt Alexandra, and didnt want him telling her what to do. Atticus sent them both up to bed after talking to them.
  • Both of you stop fighting and go up to bed now!
  • You have to stop fighting with aunt Alexandra!
  • Are you sure? Here let me check.
  • Jem I think there's a snake under my bed
  • Before Scout goes to bed, she steps on something moving under her bed and thinks its a snake. She calls Jem into her room to tell him about the snake. he decides to look for himself.
  • When Jem looks under the bed he finds that Dill has been hiding under Scouts bed. He explains that he escaped from his parents house because he felt like his new father didn't like him and that both his parents didn't want him around. He explained that they only bought him things he wanted and then expected him to go away.
  • Uh hi guys...
  • Jem decides to tell Atticus despite the fact that Dill told him not to. Atticus tells the kids that he is going to inform Ms.Rachel that Dill is in his house and is staying the night. He gives Dill food then sends them all off to bed. Although, Dill is still mad at Jem for telling Atticus.
  • Im going to inform Ms.Rachel that you are here so she can tell your parents, but for tonight you can stay with us. Jim, Scout, go get him some food then get to bed.
  • In the middle of the night, Dill sneaks into Scouts room waking her up. They both sit on her bed and have a long conversations about Dills family and how Scout should appreciate the bond her family has. This makes Scout realise how lucky she is to have the family that she does. They go on to talk about Boo Radley and they wonder how his family is. That makes Scout wonder why he never ran away. Dill says that maybe he has no where to go. They both eventually fall asleep after their long conversation.
