Storyboard Text

  •  Today I am going to be teaching you about carbon and the carbon cycle!
  • As a tree, I am a part of the carbon cycle! I perform photosynthesis, a process of creating energy that utilizes carbon.
  • Carbon comes from many different places, but it usually starts with living things. These living things respire. This releases carbon into the atmosphere.
  • But these living things eventually die and decay. Their fossils, over millions of years, can become petroleum which contains carbon. This petroleum can be stored in the deep ocean and in sedimentary rocks.
  • This petroleum is turned into lots of different things. Some of this petroleum becomes oil, which is burned in factories. The burning of oil and other fossil fuels releases even more carbon into the atmosphere.
  • Burning large amounts of fossil fuels in factories to make various different things is one big thing humans do to contribute to the carbon cycle.
  • The excess amount of carbon humans release can have drastic effects on the atmosphere. The carbon that is released can also be stored in the atmosphere.
