  • Nick Carraway is the narrator for Gatsby's story. This is used to provide a second perspective to Gatsby's life. Nick tends to have a very neutral opinion about things
  • Nick sells bonds. He was able to make a good fortune coming from a middle class family. He received his education at Yale. Nick has a house in West Egg.
  • "When I came back from the East last autumn I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention forever" (1)
  • Nick goes to East Egg where his cousin, Daisy, and her husband, Tom Buchanen, live. Daisy is worried that Tom has a mistress. Tom is makes racist gestures throughout the night.
  • Nick becomes disgusted with them. He is confused on why Daisy puts up with Tom cheating on her. He also thinks that the whole family is snobbish
