  • This house is killing me!
  • A man comes to help his troubled friend. His friend's house is very gloomy and uninviting.
  • Climax
  • The narrator meets Roderick Usher who is a bit too happy to see him. He tells him that he suffers from a disease of the mind.
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Roderick feels that his fear is killing him. His sister has died, which adds to his fear. He seems to believe the house itself is somehow linked to him. 
  • Conclusion/Ending
  • The narrator is reading to Roderick, and the sounds are coming to life. Roderick is terrified and thinks that his sister is coming. The door opens, and she is standing in the doorway.
  • Roderick's sister,  Madeline, falls on him, and they both die. The narrator runs out of the house.
  • The narrator watches in horror as the House of Usher is completely swallowed up and disappears.
