Storyboard Text

  • The Southerners were angry with Lincoln's election, because he was a Republican and Republicans were against slavery. The South was scared because they knew slavery would end as Lincoln would be President. Then the South seceded.
  • Of all the candidates, why Lincoln?
  • When the Southerners heard that the Dred Scott case was over and he was headed back to the South, they rejoiced. They also rejoiced because slavery was legal in all new territories.
  • Southerners blocked off all supplies to Fort Sumter. By doing this, they would starve the troops in Fort Sumter and make them surrender. Lincoln didn't want to give up the Fort, but by sending troops, other states would secede.
