Martin Luther King Jr played a major role in helping African-American people to be treated equally. He lived during a time where people who were black couldn't even use the same bathrooms or schools as white people, this was called racial segregation.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a major activist for African-American people. He would do speeches about the places he had been and how they were filled with racism. One example was that he was disgusted at how the black children weren't allowed to play with the white children because of racial segregation.
This made him think about the world and what he could do to help people who were less fortunate to become equally treated.
He had this speech brewing for years and it attracted hundreds of thousands of people to crowd the Lincoln Memorial where the speech would take place. This was a lot of people in that day and they took up all of the space
This crowd kept growing and with 250,000 people watching him, Martin started his speech in which it had one of the most famous lines in history, "I have a dream" He said I have a dream 8 times during the speech with one of them being "I have a dream that little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers." You can tell he was passionate because he was supposed to talk for 4 minutes but ended up speaking for 16 minutes.
Thanks to Martin Luther King Jr. many generations were inspired to make our world less about segregating skin colours but more about forgetting what people look like and accepting everyone.
