Storyboard Text

  • The King requires half of your income.
  • That's not fair! The nobles and clergy don't have to pay taxes!
  • We desperately need bread but can't afford to buy any.
  • Aye!
  • All in favor, say "Aye."
  • What!?!? That's completely unfair to the Third Estate!
  • The first and second estates didn't have to pay any taxes while the third estate had to pay half of their income in taxes.
  • WHAT!?!? They locked us out of the meeting room!
  • They can't do this! It goes against our natural rights!
  • I have an idea! Let's break into the tennis court and stay there until a new constitution is drafted!
  • The price of bread went up and many people could no longer afford it.
  • Look at the Revolution in America! Their fighting for their rights!
  • Maybe we can follow their lead and end our oppression?
  • We can follow the ideas of Locke and Volitaire!
  • The Third Estate was not represented well in government decisions and could always get outvoted by the First and Second Estates at meetings of the Estate-General.
  • What are those peasants doing here?
  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man gave us all equal privileges.
  • The Third Estate was locked out of their meeting room. In protest, they broke down the door of an indoor tennis court and pledged to stay there until a new constitution was drafted.
  • Enlightenment ideas and the American Revolution inspired the middle class to revolt against the government with hopes of creating a government where everyone is equal.
  • The National Assembly created the Declaration of the Rights of Man in order to create equality between the social classes.
