"A Shocking Accident" Graham Greene Corey Johnson English 12 5-1-18
Jerome is the protagonist of the short story. He's a boy who turns into a man. He finds a way to come to terms with his father's death.
The story takes place in Italy in the 1920s. Jerome's father is killed by a pig. Jerome marries Sally. He is also scared on how she will react to his father's death.
Jerome talks with Sally about his father's death. Jerome's aunt says the truth. Sally has the "perfect" response to his father's death.
Sally asks what happened to the pig. Jerome says that they ate it. He kissed her. The story ends when they go back home home and he realizes how much he loves her.
The theme of the story is death and the coming of age. My personal reaction to the story is humor, because a boy's father is killed by a falling pig, Mr. Wordsworth is trying hard not to laugh about it, and he finally realizes how much he loves Sally.
