The plot of the story is about a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Charloette writes messages praising Wilbur in her web in order to persuade the farmer to let him live.
The major conflict in this story is that Wilbur is to be butchered at Christmas time since he is the runt of the litter. Charlotte promises Wilbur that he will not die and she begins to make a plan to save him.
The theme of the story is friendship and love. It is through the love of Fern and Charlotte that Wilbur is able to continue living on. Charlotte and Wilbur are loyal to each other in order to keep Wilbur from being killed.
