Storyboard Text

  • Antigone leaves, and the Chrous of Theban elders enter. They confirm that the war is over, and give details on the battle. 
  • Parados
  • The Sentry accuses Antigone of burying Polynices. She is confronted by Creon and is questioned about these accusations, she doesn't deny them. Antigone says she is ready to die, and that she doesn't regret it. She did it because of a compulsive urge to follow God's laws instead of Creon's.
  • Scene 2
  • Ode 1 talks about how wonderful men are. Although, it says that laws limit man and man can't control death.
  • "Numberless are the world's wonders, but none are more wonderful than man''(Sophocles.ode4.332)
  • Scene 1(part 2)
  • ODE 1
  • Teiresias, a blind prophet enters to talk to Creon. He demands that before he tells Creon the news he must promise to do whatever he says. Creon says he has always followed his advice. Teresias said he heard two birds fighting which frightened him He set up an offering to understand the prophecy
  • "What new thing have you tell us, Old Teiresias"(sophocles.SceneV.990)
  • Scene 5
  • Instead of receiving an answer slime oozed from the altar. He believes this means the state is sick because of Creon. Teiresias believes Creon must let go of his ego before it's too late.
  • The messenger enters to bring news, he informs the Chorus that Haimon is dead. Eurydice enters asking what happened, he tells them that he was burying Polynices when they heard a scream
