Odd to think that the great KFC empire started here with Colonel Sanders begging people to buy his recipe for a nickel per piece of chicken. But to better understand this let's go back to the start.
This is truly the beginnings of KFC. It all started with the Colonel giving directions to hungry customers. He decided that he could put a little more money in his pocket if HE provided the food instead of sending them to someone else.
So, here in the dining room of the Colonel's gas station/ house, a popular dish was formed. The world famous Kentucky fried chicken. So popular, in fact, that he bought out the motel across the street and turned it into a restaurant.
Then, not soon after , his restaurant burned down! But, thanks to his success, he rebuilt it. As if he hadn't gone through enough, the highway that brought so much business was rerouted! Almost overnight he went from having customers from all over the country, he had almost none!
So now here we are, where, at 62, broke and living in his car our beloved Colonel Sanders BEGGED people to buy his recipe for a commission of a mere 5 cents a piece of chicken. For quite some time no one bought. Then finally, one man agreed. This is where the KFC empire began!
And y'all know me! I'm the Colonel! Shortly after my Kentucky fried chicken recipe was sold, I decided to stay as the Kentucky Fried Chicken spokesman! Some people said that I had two of these white suits. A heavy woolen one for winter and fall, and a light one for spring and summer! Well that's all I got, folks! See you at KFC!
