  • Slavery should stop now!
  • Northern Free States: Beliefs about Congressional Power?
  • Letting states choose will affect the balance!
  • Northern Free States: Fears about the Compromise
  • If slavery expands too much, I will become a slave to a random plantation.
  • The Compromise allowed slave states to expand more.
  • Southern Slave States: Why did they support it?
  • The Northern states believed that Congress should be able to choose if a state is added as a slave or free state.
  • Southern Slave States: Beliefs about states' rights?
  • They did not want slavery to expand more than it has.
  • Southern Slave States: Fears about the Compromise?
  • They supported it because they got to keep their slavery and they had hope that with westward expansion, slave states would grow in number.
  • Hopefully, I can get more plantation land when the US expands and there is more territory above the 36/30 line.
  • They thought states should be able to choose if they wanted to be pro-slave or a free state.
  • It's not the Congress's choice!
  • Slavery was disappearing and more land was above the 36/30 line.
  • There is too much terrirotry above the 36/30 line! Slavery is disappearing!
