Honey, we should buy that. Less time in purgatory would be great!
Hmmmmm, that doesn't seem right...
You're right. Pope Leo X is always looking out for us.
Mr. Luther was agitated about the Church's teachings. He thought that you could not win God's grace, but that faith alone, sola fide, was needed. Also that in the Church was given too much power when the real head should be Jesus Christ. The final thing that Martin Luther was upset about was that clergy were interpreting the Bible for the people instead of letting the people interpret it in their own way.
The church's teachings are sinful! I should do something about it
So in 1520, the current head of the Church, Pope Leo X, excommunicated Luther.
This is bad.... oh this is really bad! Now I have to kick out Martin Luther. He can no longer be a part of the Church with these outrageous views.
Martin Luther had his works discredited by the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, through the Edict of Worms. Even though his opinions were disputed by the Emperor, word spread about his idea of challenging the Church through the newly invented printing press. Others, such as John Calvin were inspired by his stand.
You, Martin Luther are hereby outlawed and you're writings are condemned .
