Fireside Chat with Keegan About Roger Martin
This storyboard does not have a description.
Thanks for joining me for this chat where I'll be answering the MANY questions that my puppy, Keegan, has about Roger Martin, my scholar. Don't get too comfortable, we'll be moving around a lot!
A little out of my comfort zone here with all of these visuals, my learning style is HIGHLY verbal!
So, what's the big deal with this Roger Martin guy?
Big deal? Well, only that he is a leading business thinker who has has contributed a lot to the research of both Integrative Thinking and Business Design.
It's the ability to constructively resolve the differences in opposing models by creating a third, new and better model. This new model preserves elements from the first two models, but is superior to both. Pretty cool, huh?
Integrative Thinking? What's that?
Yep, pretty cool! But, what about Business Design, what's that all about?
At the core of Business Design is the need for organizations to balance their desire for reliability and predictability with the exploration of new knowledge required for innovation.
That makes sense. But, what does Martin say about how to do that exploration?
It's all about applying the designer’s tool of abductive reasoning to challenges. Different from the logical inductive and deductive reasoning, abductive reasoning does not strive to prove something that is true or false, rather it seeks to hypothesize, or imagine, what *could* be true.
He's busy with new responsibilities as a Research Chair in Productivity and Competitiveness and the Academic Director of the Prosperity Institute at the Rotman School of Mgt. at the University of Toronto. But, I'll try!
Good stuff! I'm liking this Martin guy more and more. Can we get him down here to hang with us?
