  • Act IV
  • Tituba and Sarah Good are in a Salem jail. They are going insane.
  • Herrick: "Go to the north cell; this place is wanted now." Sarah Good: Oh it is you, Marshal! I thought sure the Devil comin' for us" Tituba: Take me home, Devil! Take me home!
  • Parris (left), and Hale (middle), attempt to convince Danforth to pardon executions to lower the chances of rebellion.
  • Parris: "Excellency, I would postpone these hangin's for a time" Hale: "You must pardon them." Danforth: "I cannot pardon these when twelve are already hanged for the same crime."
  • Hale must break the bad news to Goody Proctor in hopes that she may be able to make Proctor confess.
  • Hale: "Your husband is marked to hang this morning. Will you plead with him?" Elizabeth: "Let will speak with him." Hale: "Will you plead his confession or will you not? Elizabeth: "I promise nothing. Let me speak with him."
  • After a discussion with Elizabeth, Proctor (right) chooses to confess.
  • Proctor: "I want my life..." Hawthorne: "He will confess! Proctor will confess!" Parris: "Praise God!"
  • After confessing to witchcraft, he changes his mind and ruins the confession paper because he refuses to reveal his name to the public.
  • Danforth: "Mr. Proctor, the village must have proof that-" Proctor: "Damn the village! Leave me my name!" *ruins paper* Parris: "Proctor! Proctor!" Danforth: "You will hang!"
  • The next morning, John Proctor is hanged for witchcraft...
