Storyboard Text

  •  Rutherford discovered that atoms have a small charged nucleus surrounded by largely empty space, and are circled by tiny electrons.
  • Alright class what have you learned?
  • *video ends*
  • The idea that all matter is made up of tiny, indivisible particles, or atoms, is believed to have originated with the Greek.
  • Light is absorbed when an electron jumps to a higher energy orbit and emitted when an electron falls into a lower energy orbit.
  • Democritus first suggested the existence of the atom but it took almost two millennia before the atom was placed on a solid foothold as a fundamental chemical object by John Dalton.
  • James Chadwick discovered the Neutron in atoms.
  •  Thomson discovered the electron by experimenting with a Crookes, or cathode ray, tube.
  • Great Class!I can see you all have learned a lot.
  • Wolfgang Pauli introduced two new numbers and formulated the Pauli principle, which proposed that no two electrons in an atom could have identical sets of quantum numbers.
  • Marie Curie discovery of two new radioactive elements, polonium and radium, and forced scientists to change their ideas about the structure of the atom.
  •  Schrödinger used mathematical equations to describe the likelihood of finding an electron in a certain position.
