The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: The Mind is One of the Greatest Weapons a Man Can Have
The scene in which the aliens were discussing how they were going to destroy Maple Street supports the theme because they weren't going to use any weapons to do it. The aliens explained that all they needed were a couple of switches to control the power and leave it to the residents for the rest. The aliens were smart enough to know that the idea of one of the neighbors being not human would tear Maple Street apart. This scene shows that the mind can be such a powerful weapon. The scene where the residents were having a blame game shows how fear in the mind can make you do crazy things. The residents of Maple Street were blaming each other one after another in fear that someone was not human. Charlie was so afraid that he ended up shooting one of the residents who was just walking down the street to tell them something. In the scene where a flash of light appears, the residents of Maple street were all thinking it was something worse than what it actually was. This fear made the residents even more scared and paranoid.
