In the 12th century, the Aztecs were a small nomadic tribe that went searching for a home.
The god of war, sun, and human sacrifice, Huitzilopochtli led the Aztecs to an island. He said to look for an eagle perching on a cactus eating a serpent. To thank him, he said to build a temple in his honor and in 1325 Tenochtitlán was founded.
