  • THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT!
  • 1813, Massachusetts
  • In the early 1750s-1800s, men had been consuming way too much alcohol with no limit. Many struggles were happening at home like, joblessness and homelessness. After work, the men would go to the bar for drinks but end up going home as a drunken fool, and this would cause the family of the drunk to be verbally or physically abused by him.
  • Because most families were going through this, they felt there was need for change, and they had to take action. Also, it wasn't only bad for the family, but it was bad for the men who consumed too much, because it caused many health problems.
  • And after many protests, inspirational books, newsletters, speeches, and more, in 1813 the Massachusetts Society for the Suppression of Intemperance was made. The start of change, a limit to consumption and production of alcohol.
