The Church is not fair?
The Protestant Reformation occurred in the middle ages. One of the causes of the Reformation was the Black Death, a disease that killed millions in Europe and Asia. The people thought that the disease was God punishing them for their sins. in result to this, the Catholic Church created indulgences that were believed to forgive sins if you gave money to the church. This made the church wealthy.
Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483, in Eisleben, Germany. Luther was studying to become a theologian, but during his studies, he got struck by lightning. He bowed to God and said that he would become a monk if God saved him. Luther put his faith in God and began to study the bible. Whilst studying, he was questioning the bible and the Catholic Church
Remove your statements, heretic!
Luther found that the church and the bible had conflict, and then made a list of 95 points, called the 95 Theses. These points were disagreements that Luther had with the church. The Two main points were the disagreement against the selling of indulgences and the power that Pope Leo X possessed.
October 31st, 1517, Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the door of a church in wittenburg. After this, many people agreed with Luther's points. This resulted in the Catholic Church losing money, making the church infuriated.
The church did not like this, in fact, the Catholic leaders then kicked Luther out of the Roman Catholic Church and called him a heretic. A heretic probably doesn't sound bad, but back then heretics were often executed. Luther was commanded to remove his protestation but refused to do so. Some of Luther's friends took him away and hid him until the danger passes.
Luther made it easier for Germans to read the bible, by translating the Bible into German. He made a new church, that he believed was fair. in the end, there was a split in the Roman Catholic Church, called the Protestant Reformation.
