Storyboard Text

  • I am so sorry to hear that! Lets get you started on fluoxetine to help you.
  • Hello Mrs. Jones, my name is Karen, NP with Lubbock Family Medicine. How can I help you today?
  • Hi! Well the reason for this visit is that I have been feeling depressed and panicky.
  • Thank you!
  • Hello Mrs. Jones, I am Crystal the discharge nurse. Fluoxetine (Prozac) is used to help with depression. It selectively inhibits reuptake of a chemical called serotonin in your brain. Take it in the morning before breakfast. Do not take St. John's Wort (an alternative medicine) as it can interact or any other MAOIs (linezolid). Possible side effects are: seizures, serotonin syndrome, and suicidal thoughts. If you experience any of these call us immediately. Do you have any questions?
  • That was a great explanation of this new medication. Will I still be able to breastfeed?
  • Great question! Breastfeeding is contraindicated because it can cause sedation of the baby by the medicine being excreted through your breast milk. Bottle-feeding is the best option while you are on this medication. Do you understand everything about this new medication?
  • Okay. Bottle-feeding it is! I understand all of the information you have given me. I will call if I have suicidal thoughts and any other concerns. Thank you!
