  • "Scrooge seized the ruler with such energy of action that singer fled in terror"
  • In the scene, scrooge indirectly characterizes himself to be cruel. His actions cause the boy to run away, adding the idea of scrooge's cruelty.
  • "It was a strange figure like a child, yet not so like a child as like an old man, but the strangest thing about it was, that from the crown sprang clear jet light"

  • This demonstrates internal conflict because Scrooge wants to change, but his past Christmases made his feelings about the holiday.

  • The theme of A Christmas Carol is the importance of Christmas spirit.
  • Scrooge kept towards it; trembling as he went, and following the finger, read upon the stone of the neglected grave of his own.
  • The grave is symbolic of what will happen in the future if Scrooge does not change soon.
  • This is when Scrooge changes as a person and invites his worker and his family in for dinner on Christmas Day.
