George McClellan Union leader, Robert E Lee Confederacy leader. Two days long with 23,000 casualties. Officially indecisive but the Union considered it a victory because they stopped the South from invading Maryland. Lincoln declared the Emancipation Proclamation (freed all slaves in enemy land)

Lee and Jackson led the Confederacy that was outnumbered 2-1. Lee and Jackson came up with a brilliant plan that split up the troops and surprise attacking the Union. The plan worked which showed how poorly the Union Generals were working

General Ulysses Grant led Union troops to Vicksburg. The Confederacy lasted about 48 days then surrendered to the Union. The defeat divided the Confederacy into two parts. Practically sealed the Confederacy’s fate
Lincoln replaces Rosecrans for Grant. Grant charged Chattanooga. Securing the Tennessee River was important for reinforcements to come with supplies. The North won battles at the heart of Chattanooga such as Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge.

Ulysses Grant led the Union into Robert Lee’s army. Lee could not stop Grant only stall. Lee lost about 18,000 casualties and about 30,000 casualties in all. Grant was then able to capture the Capital(Richmond).
