Storyboard Text

  • Hey Nina. Can you explain to me about cis-trans isomers ?I'm little bit confused about it..
  • Yes,Jason I can. Formation of cis and trans isomers are basically from the same molecule with C=C but with different arrangement of molecule.
  • Isn’t that alkene molecule have C=C in their structure?
  • Yes, Jason. Due to the restricted rotation around C=C formation, it gives cis and trans geometrical isomers
  • Oohh, I see. So, what is cis and trans isomers? Can you show me an example?
  • Cis isomers form when the priority groups are on the same side of the double bond, While trans isomers form when the priority groups are on opposites sides.
