  •  Meeting Moishe- Chapter 1
  • Kaballah is ....
  • Mrs. Schachter's Hallucinations
  • Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire!
  • Elie is separated from his sisters and mother
  • Men to the left! Women to the right!
  •  In chapter 1, Elie wanted to learn Kaballah but his father didn't think he should learn it because he is too young. Elie went out on his own to find a master and to his success he found someone, Moishe the Beadle. We learned that Elie was motivated to learn Kaballah when he exclaimed, " I succeeded on my own in finding a master for myself in the person of Moishe the Beadle."(Wiesel 4)
  • Foreign Jews Expelled from Sighet-Chapter 1
  • In chapter 2, while they are on the train an elder women starts yelling and hallucinating. She says that she sees fire out the window but when everyone else looks there is no fire. We were possibly told her future when she started proclaiming, " Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire!"(Wiesel 24)
  •  Arriving in Birkenau
  • In chapter 3, Elie and his family is taken and when they get to a camp the SS soldier splits the men and women apart.  Which leaves Elie alone with his father and without his sisters and mother. Elie was shocked and devastated when an SS soldier proclaimed, " Men to the left! Women to the right!"(Wiesel 29)
  • Elie arrives in Auschwitz
  • In chapter 1, the Hungarian Police shows up and takes the foreign Jews out of Sighet. Unfortunately, Moishe the Beadle was one of the foreign Jews taken by the Hungarian Police. Everyone was naive even when the Hungarian Police did this, " And then, one day all foreign Jews were expelled from Sighet."(Wiesel 6)
  • In chapter 2, when the train stopped they all got out and they arrived in the camp of Birkenau. Birkenau is the death camp part of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. We were scared for Elie when he pointed out, " In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh. It must've been around midnight. We had arrived. In Birkenau."(Wiesel 28)
  • In chapter 3, we see Elie and his father moving from camp to camp. We also see them going to the most well-known concentration camp, Auschwitz. We learned where Elie was when an SS officer explained, " Remember it always, let it be graven in your memories. You are in Auschwitz. And Auschwitz is not a convalescent home.(Wiesel 38)
