The Doctor's Tale
A Summary of the Doctor's Tale
One day, Virginius and his daughter, Virginia, were in town when a judge named Apius saw Virginia and decided he wanted to have her. Apius went to his friend Claudius and hatched a plan to get her.
Their plan was to have Claudius accuse Virginius of stealing Virginia from his house when she was a baby.
Judge Apius immediately demands that Virginia be brought to court.
When Virginius goes home, he tells his daughter what happened at court, and that her only options are to be shamed by Claudius and Apius or to die.
Virginia agrees that she'd rather be killed than go with Apius, so Virginius cuts off her head.
The next day, Virginius goes to Apius and shows him Virginia's head. Apius accuses Virginius of murder orders him to be hanged.
Before Virginius was hanged, however, a crowd of people threw Apius in jail. Virginius walked free, and Clausius was to be hung, but instead was exiled.
