Storyboard Text

  • Hurricane warning coming into Florida from the Atlantic Ocean. The storm will be hitting land very quickly- try to evacuate. It looks like the storm will reach a level four causing lots of damage to property.
  • If you're planning on staying at home, start filling up your sinks and bathtubs to get lots of extra water. Make sure you also have lots of extra food, you have your medication, flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, and blankets.
  • Make sure to keep checking in with the weather forecast to keep up on the latest news about the upcoming storm
  • For some background information on Hurricanes, they are scientifically called tropical cyclones because they form over warm ocean water. High pressured air rushes to a low pressure area. It then gets heated up and starts to rise. More high pressured air must fill in the space that was created from the warm air rising. This new air is then heated up and it starts to rise as well. This continues in a cycle. The warm rising air then condenses into clouds. The system of clouds and winds start to spin and grow. At 74 mph winds, the spinning cycle in officially a hurricane. The hurricane gets its energy by the warm ocean water and as it hits land it weakens because there is no warm ocean water to feed it. For all those who live in Florida at the moment- Good Luck :)
