John and his dad make a stop for history, on their way to an NBA Finals game.
Dad. I thought we we're going to the Sixers - Warriors game. What's going on?
Since we're in Philly, I figured we should stop here at Independence Hall first
The Constitution is the highest law in the U.S.A. All of our laws use it as a starting point. It defines the basic rights of the people. It was written at this building, as was the Declaration of Independence.
The Constitution says that we should have 3 branches of government: the Executive (President); Legislative (Congress) and Judicial (Supreme Court). They are equal in power.
This is boring. What time is the game?
My.Dad.Is.Still.Talking. And how did we get to D.C.?
The first ten amendments to the Constitution are called "The Bill of Rights"
It's a list of rights that belong to the people and it can't be interfered with by the government.
The Constitution can only be changed by an amendment. That doesn't happen often. There have only been 27 amendments in over 200 years.
Now he thinks he's Obama. We better get back to Philly before tipoff!
Like I always say, John. He who doesn't know his history, is doomed to repeat it. There are people trying to take away your rights. So know what they are.
I get it, dad. Thanks for the lecture. Now let's get to the game. And the flag background is corny!
