Storyboard Text

  • Death of Archduke Ferdinand
  • Nationalism
  • If we unite with Austria-Hungary we can hit Russian from both sides
  • Imperialism
  • We are making $100000 per month with our colonies resources
  • This was the spark of WWI, Austira-Hungary was very angry and blamed Serbia for his assassination and declared war a few weeks later. Many countries took sides.
  • Nationalism led many countries to put national interests above any consequences. Smaller countries used it as a way to seek independence and Germany used it to seek a overseas empire.
  • Britain and France had colonies in Asia and Africa providing many materials for them to sell and Germany wanted in. But the only way they could was to take territories from someone else, causing competition to strain relations even more.
