  • To Kill a Mockingbird: The Trial By: Caela
  • Atticus: which side again, Heck?” Mr. Tate: The right side, Mr. Finch, but she had more bruises—you wanta hear about ‘em?”
  • Atticus: “Can you read and write?” Mr. Ewell: “I most positively can.” Atticus: “Would you write your name for us? Clearly now, so the jury can see you do it”
  • Mr. Ewell: “What’s so interesting?” Judge Taylor: “You’re left-handed, Mr. Ewell.”
  • Scout: Atticus was trying to show, it seemed to me, that Mr. Ewell could have beaten up Mayella. That much I could follow. If her right eye was blackened and she was mostly on the right side of the face, it would tend to show that a left-handed person did it.
  • Atticus: “Why don’t you tell the truth, child, didn’t Bob Ewell beat you up?” Mayella: “That n— took advantage of me an’ if you fine fancy gentlemen don’t wanta do nothing about it then you’re all yellow stinkin’ cowards, stinkin’ cowards, the lot of you.
