I am just studying for my Geologist matching quiz!!!!
Hey what are you reading????
Oh that sounds so cool please tell me some more!
Arthur Holmes was born on January 14, 1890. He died when he was 75, in 1965 He married a geologist Doris Reynolds after his wife died in 1938. He went to school at Imperial College of London, and also Royal College of Science. He was influenced by Robert Strutt, forth Baron Rayleigh. He graduated school in 1910, from then on he was a geologist
He had discovered that the Earth's mantle contains convection cells. They dissipated and radioactive heat that moved crust to the surface. He also studied Continental Drift. He discovered them in 1919. The evidence for this is Continents moving over time, which is caused by the convection currents. We know that today because it has been proven with plant and animal fossils. Also they have been proven by Iceberg fossils in tropical areas.
He used the oceanographic, he also did the geological time scale. This helped him find out about the Convection cells in the mantle and the noticing that all the continents moved. At first he had to debate if continental drift was actually a real possibility, or if it would actually make some kind of sense, with all of the data he had gathered. Now a days we can look back on new maps and new fossils and land forms. In 1930 Holmes suggested a mechanism that could explain Alfred' Wegener theory of continental drift.
This is all so cool i think i might start studying that thank you so much!
